UMI Pharmacy Lecturer Performs Service to Make Water Spinach Noodles

The Leading Internal PKM Team of the UMI Faculty of Pharmacy, chaired by apt. Rachmat Kosman, S.Si, M.Si and members of apt. Sukmawati Syarif. S.Farm, M.Kes and apt. A. Hasrawati, S.Farm, M.Si has produced innovations in making kale noodles and educated residents in Maros regarding the importance of consuming kale which is full of nutrients.

The activity took place in Moncongloe Lappara Village, Maros Regency and involved several non-productive mothers as program partners on Saturday, September 21 2024. In front of the participants, Rahmat Kosman explained the importance of water spinach or Ipomoea aquatica which is an aquatic plant or in damp soil and usually has stems measuring around 2-3 meters or more. Water spinach or Ipomoea aquatica is a plant that grows in water or in moist soil. Water spinach usually has stems measuring around 2-3 meters or more. The leaves have a high carotene content. However, research also states that this aquatic plant has a laxative effect if consumed in certain amounts. Kale leaves have many vitamins and minerals. In addition, kale is an excellent source of fiber, protein, calcium and vitamins A & C for health. Water spinach is a good choice for those of you who want to lose weight and reduce cholesterol levels in the body naturally. Many researchers have proven that consuming kale can reduce cholesterol levels in the body and triglycosides. Kale leaves contain a lot of iron. This is of course very beneficial for people who suffer from anemia. Apart from that, kale is also good for pregnant women to consume because pregnant women need more iron. Iron is a mineral that is very important for the body, especially for red blood cells as the form of hemoglobin.

"This cheap plant is one of the foods that can increase the body's immunity naturally compared to supplements sold in drug stores. Consuming kale regularly can improve the body's immune system and also strengthen bones. Kale also contributes to neutralizing toxins in the body," explained Sukmawati.

On this health education occasion, regarding the importance of consuming the kale noodles produced, the UM Faculty of Pharmacy's Leading Internal PKM Team invited residents to plant kale, as well as utilize it by making kale noodles.

At the end of the session, a practice of making kale noodles was carried out, where the mothers were divided into two groups. Participants were very enthusiastic because after doing the practice they were given questions with interesting prizes in the form of equipment used in the practice in the form of blenders, dough rolling machines and other entertainment prizes, apart from that they were also given noodle products from their practice. They hope that similar activities can be carried out again in the future, because apart from increasing knowledge and skills, it is also a business opportunity for the production and marketing of kale noodles to improve the family's economy.
