Implementation of the Bugis Philosophy of Life in the Leadership of Raja Ali Haji at the Malaysian Translation & Book Institute

KUALA LUMPUR. Three Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) lecturers appeared on the international stage through the International Community Service (PKM) activity which was held at the Malaysian Institute of Translation and Books (ITBM), Friday (24/10/2025). This activity was led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, S.S., M.Pd. from the Faculty of Letters, Communication Sciences and Education (FSIKP), together with two team members, namely Dr. H. Muhammad Ishaq Samad, M.A. (Faculty of Islamic Religion) and Dr. Fatmah Afrianty Gobel, SKM, M. Epid. (Faculty of Public Health).

In this activity, the UMI team presented a study entitled "Implementation of the Bugis Philosophy of Life in the Leadership of Raja Ali Haji: Critical Analysis of Tuhfat al-Nafis." This study examines the values ​​of siri', pesse', and ade' in these classical works, as well as their relevance to modern leadership in the Malay-Nusantara region. The UMI team's presentation received a warm welcome from ITBM. They assessed that UMI's approach was successful in enriching regional cultural and historical discussions.

ITBM Executive Director, Encik Sakri Abdullah, said that the thoughts brought by the UMI team opened up new perspectives in the study of the archipelago. As team leader, Dr. Muhammad Yunus emphasized that PKM International is not just an activity to share knowledge, but is a real form of UMI's global contribution in strengthening academic networks and bringing Indonesian cultural values ​​to the world stage.


"International service like this is an important part of UMI's commitment to be actively present in global academic discourse and safeguard the intellectual heritage of the archipelago," he said. This activity also strengthens UMI's steps towards international accreditation, because it shows the implementation of the tridharma of higher education at the global level through collaboration, publication and strengthening academic diplomacy in Southeast Asia. Through this PKM, UMI not only expands international cooperation, but also introduces the richness of Bugis culture and the noble values ​​of Tuhfat al-Nafis to the Malaysian academic community.
