Princess Nutrition Class: Education in Preventing Anemia and Chronic Energy Deficiency (KEK) at the Yatama Mandiri Islamic Boarding School, Pallangga District, Gowa Regency
A team of lecturers from the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) of the Indonesian Muslim University has provided service related to education regarding the prevention of anemia and Chronic Energy Deficiency (KEK) for students at the Yatama Mandiri Islamic Boarding School, Pallangga District, Gowa Regency, on Thursday, October 31 2024.
One disease that is susceptible to occurring in Islamic boarding school environments is anemia. According to Nia Karuniawati, S.ST., M.Kes., anemia often has no symptoms so it is often ignored by students. In fact, according to him, anemia is a health problem that often occurs in young women. This condition needs to be watched out for considering that anemia in young women will have an impact on current and future health conditions.
Meanwhile, Septiyanti, S.Gz., M.Kes. revealed that Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) is often associated with anemia. According to him, CED can disrupt metabolic processes in the body, which if it occurs over a long period of time can reduce iron stores in the body.ย
Apart from education related to anemia and KEK, this service activity also includes training on anthropometric measurements. Students are trained to be able to measure weight, height and upper arm circumference (LILA) using standard tools.
This activity ended with a discussion, questions and answers, and giving door prizes to participants who were able to answer questions from the presenters. It is hoped that with this activity, students can pay more attention to their health, to prevent anemia and CED.
