Peer-Led Heroes: Empowering the Gen Alpha Community in Preventing Anemia through Early Detection and Anemia Education

The Lecturer Team at the Faculty of Public Health, Indonesian Muslim University carried out community service at Darul Hikmah Islamic Middle School, Makassar. This activity took place on Monday and Thursday 15 & 25 September 2025. This activity was welcomed by the Principal of Darul Hikmah Islamic Middle School. This service team is Dr. Suchi Avnalurini Sharief., S.Si.T., SKM., M.Keb, Dr. Abd. Gafur, SKM., M.Kes and Nurhayati, S.ST., M.Kes.

This activity was opened by the Principal of Darul Hikmah Islamic Middle School, he said that this was an activity that was eagerly awaited by the teachers and students of Darul Hikmah Islamic Middle School. This service activity aims to detect and prevent anemia strategies in young women as well as increasing knowledge related to anemia in adolescents including strategies for preventing, treating, identifying and examining anemia. The formation of Peer Leaders as peer educators who can facilitate colleagues in obtaining information related to anemia as well as being able to carry out anemia checks using a digital hemoglobinometer measuring instrument. It is hoped that this activity will not end here but in the future it will continue with further service to evaluate previous service activities.

This activity was attended by 24 young women from class VII – IX SMP Islam Darul Hikmah and alreadyin the form of Peer Leaders consisting of 9 people who are their respective representativesclass. Apart from the presentation of the material, Hemoglobin examination was also carried out forto determine anemia in Darul Hikmah Islamic Middle School students, from 24 female studentsAnemia examination showed that 11 (45%) female students had anemia. Expected withWith this activity, the incidence of anemia at Darul Hikmah Islamic Middle School can decrease.
