EMPOWERMENT OF THE PAKKACAPING ARTS GROUP IN PRESERVING FOLK STORIES BASED ON CULTURE AND LOCAL WISDOM

The UMI PKM team is chaired by Dr. Kasma F. Amin, M.Pd. empowering the pakkacaping art group in Massaloeng Village, Salenrang Maros Village to preserve folklore based on culture and local wisdom. The team consists of Dr. Martini, M.Pd. accompanied by two students, namely Akbar Setiawan and Piski Ulandari.

The head of the implementation team said that this service aims to train the literary arts group from Massaloeng Village in preserving local cultural arts and opening their minds about the importance of preserving cultural arts heritage. Dr. Kasma emphasized that this activity was a follow-up to the results of their research on Bugis Makassar oral literature which has its own unique characteristics such as traditional musical accompaniment, but the talents of local artists are increasingly rare.

Literary artists speaking the Makassar Bugis language are starting to become difficult to find due to the lack of regeneration. According to local residents who are interested in spoken music accompanied by Kacaping, there are actually many enthusiasts from abroad who come specifically to watch the Sinrilik and Kacaping arts performances. In fact, the oral stories told with the art of music contain the history of life in the palace during the Kingdom, the epics of the Bugis kings of Makassar, and times of war and romance such as the stories of Maipa Deapati and Datu Museng, Hikayat Arung Palakka, and Tuanta Salamaka and there are many more that can be appointed as a creative industry that is no less exciting than the stories in Europe that are popular with GenZ young people.

This oral story with typical Bugis Makassar musical art has the potential to be used as an innovative artistic creative product with economic value to support Maros tourist attractions. There are several tourist attractions around Massaloeng Village such as Rammang-Rammang, Leang-Leang Prehistoric Tourism, Dolli Tourism, and Bantimurung Waterfall.and Biseang Labboro, which used to contain the art of speaking Sinrilic but is no longer found. Therefore, the head of the PKM Team explained that the traditional art of Kacaping and Sinrilik music with its historical literature needed to be regenerated so that the arts and culture heritage would not be annexed by other countries or become extinct. The PKM activity location in Massaloeng Village is about 1 hour or 45 km from the UMI Makassar campus.
