
Empowerment of Productive Elderly in Gunung Silanu Village, Jeneponto Regency
LEGAL COUNSELING TO EMPOWER PRODUCTIVE ELDERLYIN MOUNT SINALU VILLAGE, JENEPONTO DISTRICT
Gunung Silanu Village, Jeneponto Regency, as a village supported by the Indonesian Muslim University(UMI), has once again become a location for community service activities through
organizing Legal Counseling for the Productive Elderly. This activity aims to improvelegal awareness while encouraging the active role of the elderly in social and economic lifevillage.
The legal counseling was carried out by the Muslim University service teamIndonesia, chaired by Dr. H. Azwad Rachmat Hambali, S.H., M.H., with membersDr. Angreany Arief, S.H., M.H. This activity is part of UMI's commitment tostrengthening the function of the tridharma of higher education, especially community servicebased on the real needs of village communities.
In this activity, participants consisting of elderly people and village officials were given assistanceunderstanding of the legal rights and obligations of the elderly, legal protection againstthe elderly group, as well as the importance of empowering the elderly productively andsustainable. The material is presented dialogically so that it is easy to understand and relevant tosocial conditions of the people of Gunung Silanu Village.
Team leader, Dr. H. Azwad Rachmat Hambali, S.H., M.H., emphasized that the elderlyis not a passive group, but a social asset that has great experience and potentialto contribute to village development. Therefore, understanding the law becomesan important instrument to protect and empower the elderly to remain productive anddignified.
Meanwhile, Dr. Angreany Arief, S.H., M.H. convey that counselingIt is hoped that this law will be able to build collective awareness in society regardingthe importance of legal protection and social support for the elderly. With an understanding of the lawadequate, elderly people can be more confident in participating in economic activities,social and societal.
This outreach activity received a positive response from the people of Gunung Silanu Village.The enthusiasm of the participants was seen from the high level of participation and interaction during the discussion session.The local village government also expressed its appreciation for the contribution of Muslim UniversityIndonesia in assisting and empowering village communities, especially groupselderly.
Through this activity, Indonesian Muslim University emphasizes its commitment toimplementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, especially community service.Apart from that, the Extension team hopes to build sustainable synergy between universitiesand assisted village communities, in order to create elderly people who are legally aware, productive andempowered as an integral part of developing an inclusive and just society.
