
Empowerment of Al-Fikri Makassar SMPIT Students through Safe Cosmetics Education and Implementation of Natural Body Care Product Innovations Based on Local Natural Ingredients
Makassar โ โโThe Lecturer Team at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) is backshows his work in implementing the tridharma of higher education throughLeading Community Partnership Program (PKM) activities. This activity collaborates with SMPITAl-Fikri Makassar as a development partner with a focus on empowering students in manufacturingnatural and halal cosmetics based on local natural ingredients.
The program entitled "Empowering Students of SMPIT Al-Fikri Makassar through Cosmetic EducationSafe and Implementation of Natural Body Care Product Innovation Based on Local Natural Ingredients."attended by 136 students. Activities will be carried out from September to November 2025 withfull support from the UMI Community Service Institute (LPkM) through the schemeFlagship PKM funding of nine million rupiah.
The service team consists of lecturers and students from the UMI Faculty of Pharmacy, chaired by apt. NurmayaEffendi, S.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D. with members Dr. apt. Audia Triana Olii, S.Farm., M.Sc. and apt.Dewi Yuliana, S.Sc., M.Farm., Ph.D., as well as assistant assistant apt. Andi Trihadi Kusuma, M.Siand Aminah, M.Sc assisted by two students, Nur Sukma Dwi Priyanti and Hindya S.M.
The activity began with education regarding safe and halal cosmetics for teenagers, namelyequip students with the knowledge to choose age-appropriate, free body care productshazardous materials, and environmentally friendly. The lecturers emphasized the importance of awareness ofchemical content in everyday products and how to recognize halal labels on cosmetics.
After the educational session, the activity continued with training on making natural body care products,such as stick deodorant, spray deodorant, and natural lip balm. All ingredients used โstarting from beeswax, coconut oil, olive oil, arrowroot powder, to alum โis an ingredient that is easy to find at local chemical stores and is safe for teenage skin.
Students looked enthusiastic when practicing mixing ingredients, stirring formulas, and pouring out the resultsmix into the mold. Not a few of them are proud to bring home homemade products,the result of direct learning that combines chemistry, creativity and valuesentrepreneurship.
According to the Team Leader, apt. Nurmaya Effendi, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., this activity is not onlyteaches theory, but also real practice that students can apply in everyday life.
โWe want students to understand that science can be something fun, useful,and economic value. With natural ingredients, they can make products that are healthy, halal, andenvironmentally friendly," he said.
Apart from improving skills, this activity also develops independent character and spiritentrepreneurship among students of SMPIT Al-Fikri Makassar. The school appreciates this programand plans to make it part of ongoing extracurricular activities thatsupports an independent curriculum based on deep learning.
This PKM activity is a manifestation of the commitment of the Faculty of Pharmacy UMI and LPkM UMIpresenting service innovations that have a real impact on society.
