
ASSISTANCE FOR STRENGTHENING THE MUSTAHIK ECONOMY THROUGH PRODUCTIVE ZAKAT MANAGEMENT TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE PROSPERITY IN THE INSPIRATION ZAKAT (WIZ) WAHDAH OF MAKASSAR CITY
Lecturers at the Faculty of Islamic Religion, Indonesian Muslim University (FAI-UMI) carried out Community Service (PKM) activities which focused on strengthening productive zakat management for the "Usaha Maslahat" MSME group, Thursday, September 25 2025.
This activity is also coupled with productive zakat-based business training as an effort to increase the capacity of mustahik in utilizing zakat funds in a sustainable manner.
Head of the Service Team, Dr. Hasanna Lawang, in his speech emphasized that this activity is part of the implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education, especially in the aspect of community service. He explained that current zakat management is no longer just consumptive in nature, but must be directed at productive programs that are able to have a long-term impact on the welfare of mustahik.
"The use of zakat funds must not stop at fulfilling the basic needs of mustahik, but must be managed so that they can support productive businesses. In this way, zakat can become an instrument of sustainable economic empowerment," said Dr. Hassanna.
He also emphasized the importance of ensuring the eligibility of zakat recipients and assessing the feasibility of the type of business being run. Apart from that, the application of sharia values and Islamic business ethics is mandatory in every form of business that utilizes zakat funds.
Also attending the activity was Mr. Muh. Rizal, Chair of the MSME Group "Usaha Maslahat". On that occasion, he said that the group he leads consists of nine people with various types of businesses, such as traditional cakes, yellow rice, workshops, gallon water production, and mixed goods trading.
"We hope that assistance like this can continue and the quota for zakat funds from WIZ Makassar City can be increased. Continuous training will certainly really help group members in developing their businesses," he said.
As part of a series of activities, the service team also carried out production assistance practices for three types of businesses which were sampled and considered representative of other businesses in the group.
This service activity involves a team consisting of Dr. Hasanna Lawang(Chair), Dr. Jamaluddin (Member), as well as two accompanying students, namelyIhwana and Lutfiana Afni. Through this activity, empowerment is expectedmustahik through productive zakat can be more optimal and providereal benefits for improving the community's economy.
