IMPLEMENTATION OF SMART METERS FOR ENERGY MANAGEMENT AND IMPROVING POND EFFICIENCY AT UD TANI NILA NUSANTARA

Pangkep (LPkM UMI)— Technological innovation returns from the lecturer teamMuslim UniversityIndonesia (UMI)through activitiesLeading Community Partnership Program (PKM).titled“Application of Smart Meters for Energy Management and Increasing Pond Efficiencyat UD Tani Nila Nusantara.”

This program is a real step for UMI in encouraging digital transformation in the sectorcommunity fisheries, especially in pond-based energy managementInternet of Things(IoT).

The activity lasted forfour months, sinceAugust to November 2025, withfield implementation until OctoberAndThe final stage is preparing a report andpublication of the results of activitiesin November.

This program is located atUD Tani Nila Nusantara, Mattampa, Bungoro District,Pangkep Regency, South Sulawesi, which is the main partner for implementing the systemsmartIoT based metersin the pond environment.

The implementation team consists of:

Chairman:Ir. Bayu Adrian Ashad, S.T., M.T. —Electrical Engineering Study Program, FacultyUMI EngineeringMember:Ramdaniah, S.Kom., M.T., MTA —Informatics Engineering Study Program, FUMI Computer Science faculty

Students involved:two students fromElectrical Engineering Study ProgramAndInformatics Engineering Study Programwho plays a role in technical assistance anddocumentation of activities.

Team Leader,Ir. Bayu Adrian Ashad, S.T., M.T., explains that smart meter technologybe a solution to increase energy efficiency in the fisheries sector which is stillusing a manual system.

“IoT-based smart meters allow farmers to monitor electricity usage in real timeand accurate. The resulting data helps managers know the energy consumption of each deviceand make adjustments to make it more efficient," he said.

Meanwhile,Ramdaniah, S.Kom., M.T., MTA, as a team member, emphasized its importanceassistance in the process of adopting digital technology by society.

"This activity is not only limited to installing equipment, but also provides training for partners"able to operate the system and understand energy data independently," he explained.

Initial observation results show that energy management in ponds is still being carried out in an orderly mannerconventional without a clear monitoring system. Equipment likeaerator and water pumpoften operated without timing, causingwaste of energy andincreasing operational costs.

Through the application of smart meters, electricity consumption can now be monitored directlydigital viainteractive dashboardwhich displays current, voltage and energy usage data for eachdevice directly.

During the activity, the UMI team carried outsocialization and technical traininguse of smart metersfor farm owners and employees. Training includesmethodreading energy data, analyzing usage patterns, and simple equipment maintenancesystem ordercan be used sustainably.

The presence of two students from Electrical Engineering and Information Engineering also strengthened itThis activity is through technical support and documentation of system implementation in the field.

Owner of UD Tani Nila Nusantara,Rachmatullah, S.T., welcome this activity becausehas a direct impact on farm operations.

"We used to turn on the pump and aerator based on habit. Now we can seereal-time electricity usage data and adjust the tool's working time to be more economical,"he said.

Based on the evaluation results, the application of smart meters in this pond is provenincreaseenergy efficiency and foster new awareness about the importance of energy managementdata-based.

This program is also clear evidence of cross-disciplinary collaboration betweenElectrical Engineering andInformatics Engineeringin presenting innovations that have a direct impact on society.

This activity received support fromIndonesian Muslim University through the InstituteCommunity Service (LPkM UMI).

Through IoT-based smart meter innovation, UMI continues to be committed to supportingimplementationappropriate technologyfor the sake of making it happensmart farms that are efficient, productive and friendlyenvironment.
