
STRENGTHENING FAMILY NUTRITION THROUGH EDUCATION ON THE USE OF CORN AND MORINGA AS HEALTHY SNACKS IN PADDINGING VILLAGE, SANROBONE DISTRICT, TAKALAR DISTRICT
Takalar — A team of lecturers from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) implemented itCommunity Service activities (PKM) in Paddinging Village, Sanrobone District,Takalar Regency. This activity carries the theme "Strengthening Family Nutrition Through EducationUtilization of Corn and Moringa as Healthy Snacks”.
The program aims to increase public awareness of the importance of nutritionfamilies through the use of local food ingredients that are easily available and rich in nutrition.This activity is part of the UMI Assisted Village program which is funded by the InstituteCommunity Service (LPKM-UMI).
The implementation team is chaired by apt. Vina Purnamasari M., S.Farm., M.Sc., together with members of apt.Ririn, S.Farm., M.Sc. and apt. A. Hasrawati, S.Farm., M.Sc., and assisted by two students, AndiMassaressung and Davi Rahmat Khalid.
Paddinging Village is known to have abundant natural resources such as corn and moringa.However, its use as a healthy food ingredient is still relatively low. Through activitiesThis time, the service team is trying to introduce the benefits of these two ingredients at onceteaches people how to process it into moringa corn sticks — a healthy snack thateasy to make and highly nutritious.
The activity began with education about the nutritional content of corn and moringa, followed by traininghands-on practice in making snacks. Participants, most of whom are members of the Paddinging Village PKK, were taught the process of mixing ingredients, processing, and product packaging.
Apart from increasing nutritional awareness, participants also received product packaging traininguse a standing pouch made from aluminum foil to make it more hygienic and attractive. Theytaught how to install product labels and labels to support small business developmentbased on local food.
Head of the service team, apt. Vina Purnamasari, hopes that this training will not only add to itknowledge about nutrition, but also opens up new economic opportunities for society.
"Through this activity, we want to educate the public about the importance of family nutrition,as well as equipping them with the skills to process local food ingredients into productsworth selling," said apt. Vina.
This activity received an enthusiastic response from local residents. Chairman of the Paddinging Village PKKexpressed his appreciation to the UMI lecturer team for sharing their knowledge and skills.
"We are very grateful to UMI. This activity opened our horizons"using corn and moringa as healthy snacks that can be developed into a household business," said one participant.
Through this activity, the UMI Faculty of Pharmacy emphasizes its commitment to continue playing its roleActive in empowering society based on science and technology.
The program "Strengthening Family Nutrition Through Education on the Use of Corn and Moringa asHealthy Snacks” is clear evidence of the contribution of UMI academics in supporting the programgovernment regarding food security, balanced nutrition, and development of village potential.
This activity is also an implementation of UMI's vision as a superior and oriented universityon community service, in line with the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),especially in the fields of health, food security and local economic empowerment.
