
Strengthening the Capacity of PKK Women in Innovation in Corn Derivative Products Based on Technology and Local Culture in Bonto Bangun Village
Bulukumba, 14 June 2026 – Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) has once again demonstrated its commitment to implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education through the implementation of the Community Service Program (PkM) funded by the BIMA Program of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology (Diktisaintek) in 2026. This program aims to increase community capacity in developing local resource potential through the application of applicable science, technology and innovation.
The service activity carries the theme "Strengthening the Capacity of PKK Women in Innovation in Corn Derivative Products Based on Technology and Local Culture in Bonto Bangun Village". The program is implemented with the Bonto Bangun PKK Group located in Palampang Village, Rilau Ale District, Bulukumba Regency, as the main partner. The PKK group was chosen because it has a strategic role in encouraging the family economy through business development based on local potential.
This program is chaired by Ir. Muliaty Galib, M.P., lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture and Mining Land Bioremediation, Indonesian Muslim University. The service team also involved Najirah, S.Kom., M.T., lecturer at the Informatics Engineering Study Program at Handayani University, and Dr. Ir. H. Iskandar Hasan, M.Sc., lecturer at the UMI Faculty of Agriculture and Mining Land Bioremediation. This cross-disciplinary collaboration is a strength in providing comprehensive assistance, starting from aspects of product processing, use of digital technology, to business development strategies.Bulukumba Regency is one of the areas that has quite large corn production potential. However, most of the harvest is still marketed in the form of raw materials so that the added value obtained by the community is relatively limited. Through this program, the service team encourages the use of corn into various processed products

The series of activities include counseling, training, product processing demonstrations, as well as assistance to members of the Bonto Bangun PKK Group. The material provided includes processing techniques for corn derivative products, attractive packaging, quality control, and the use of digital media as a means of promotion and marketing. Apart from that, participants are also encouraged to develop products that still highlight local cultural taste and identity as added value in market competition.
During the activity, participants showed high enthusiasm. PKK Group members actively discuss, share experiences, and follow product processing practices directly. It is hoped that the participatory approach implemented in this program will be able to improve community skills while fostering an entrepreneurial spirit based on regional potential.

Through the BIMA Diktisaintek Community Service Program in 2026, the Indonesian Muslim University hopes that the PKK Bonto Bangun Group will be able to become a pioneer in developing corn derivative products that are innovative, high quality and competitive. This program is expected to have a real impact on increasing people's income, strengthening the family economy, and encouraging the birth of sustainable local commodity-based micro businesses. Apart from that, this activity is clear evidence that the synergy between universities and the community is able to produce innovations that provide direct benefits for regional economic development and community welfare.
