PKM Utilization of Soursop Leaves (Annona muricata) as an Environmentally Friendly Substitute for Electric Mosquito Repellent and Spray

Lecturers at the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) of the Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) on (14/11/2024) held community service in Bonto Bunga village, Moncongloe District, Maros Regency.

The service theme is "PKM Utilizing Soursop Leaves (Annona muricata) as an Environmentally Friendly Substitute for Electric Mosquito Repellent and Spray". As the chief executive of the PKM activities, UMI Lecturers are Mansur Sididi, SKM., M.Kes accompanied by implementing members Andi Mappanganro, S.Kep, Ns, M.Kep and 3 members of the UMI FKM students.

This activity was held thanks to support from the Community Service Institute (LPkM) of the Indonesian Muslim University as the funder of this activity and as participants in the activity came from the Bonto Bunga Village PKK team group of 35 people.

Head of Bonto Bunga Village, H. Muh. Nasir, S.Ag in his speech was very grateful because Bonto Bunga village had been trusted to be a location for community service.

"Alhamdulillah, I am always grateful because our village is trusted by UMI to be a place of community service," he said.

He continued to say that this activity was very useful because people could directly make products from processed soursop leaves into products as a substitute for mosquito repellent.

This activity began with providing education to the community about dengue fever which was carried out by the Community Service Team so that the community would be more alert and take preventive measures as the rainy season has now entered. After that, the service team began to practice how to process soursop leaves into mosquito repellent using the tools and materials that had been prepared and the results of this product, the service team distributed to the participants who were present 5 bottles that were ready to use.

"Soursop leaves were chosen because they are easy to get in your yard and so far there are still many people who don't know that soursop leaves, if processed properly, can be used as a substitute for mosquito repellent," explained Mansur Sididi. "Apart from that, the mosquito repellent that is made is more economically safe and environmentally friendly," he continued.

He hopes that after this activity he can improve the skills of the people present in making mosquito repellent from soursop leaves which according to research results is effective in eradicating mosquitoes so that Bonto Bunga can be free from dengue fever.

According to one of the participants, Mrs. Kartika, she was very grateful and thankful that she had gained new knowledge about making soursop leaves into an electric mosquito repellent and spray that is environmentally friendly.

"I and the ladies who were present were very grateful and thankful to the team from UMI for the new knowledge that we have gained that soursop leaves can be used as an electric mosquito repellent and spray that is environmentally friendly," he said.
