PKM Developing the Capacity of UKS Managers and Student Students in Controlling Anemia in Adolescent Girls at the DDI Al-Ihsan Kanang Islamic Boarding School, Batetannga Village, Binuang District, Polewali Mandar Regency
Team of Lecturers across Faculty of Indonesian Muslim University consisting of Dr. Sitti Patimah SKM., M.Kes, and Sitti Nurana, S.ST, M.Kes together with FKM UMI students, carried out community service (PkM) on Saturday 11 October 2025 at the DDI Al-Ihsan Islamic Boarding School, Batetannga Village, Binuang District, Polman Regency, West Sulawesi Province, as a village supported by the Indonesian Muslim University. This PKM aims to expand the coverage of health services for all Islamic boarding school residents without exception, as well as increasing knowledge, motivation, awareness and skills for female students as Husada students and Islamic boarding school residents in general in an effort to control nutrition and health problems, especially for female students (students) who are considered a "window of opportunity" in overcoming intergenerational malnutrition.
This activity is fully supported by the Indonesian Muslim University Waqf Foundation as the funder, and its implementation is facilitated by the UMI Community Service Institute.
This activity was motivated by the lack of access and affordable health services for female students who are on non-formal pathways (tahfidz and yellow book studies) in Islamic boarding school environments which only have UKS at each madrasa level, so we took the initiative to facilitate the establishment of Islamic boarding school health posts so that everyone can be covered by health services in Islamic boarding schools which will be mediated by health workers from the local health center, so that every resident of the Islamic boarding school and the surrounding environment can access health services so that they do not become part of the source of public health problems.
In this service process, the PKM team provides socialization on Islamic boarding school health service management as a development of UKS, and educates female students about young women as a window of opportunity in overcoming the cycle ofintergenerational malnutrition and strategies for preventing & treating anemia in adolescent girls as a form of nutritional problem that is often found among adolescent girls. In addition, the PKM team provides educational media in the form of posters and provides anthropometric measurement tools as well as training young women to be able to detect nutritional problems through anthropometric measurements using tools distributed by the UMI PKM TEAM (digital scales, microtoises and upper arm circumference measuring tapes/LiLA.
This activity was welcomed with joy by the boarding school leaders, the community health center, the head of the madarasah (Junior High School & High School Level), UKS teachers and UKS administrators from female students, Islamic boarding school residents and of course the young women themselves who were very enthusiastic about participating in PKM activities with great hopes that this activity would have a positive impact in the future towards improving the nutritional status of young women and the health status of the Islamic boarding school community in an effort to welcome Golden Indonesia 2045.
