PkM Strengthening Halal Education in Digitalizing English Language Learning at MA Baytul Mukarromah

By digitalizing English language learning, the UMI service lecturer team is improving the ethical education of teachers and students at MA Baytul Mukarromah, Bone.

Learning English with technology is a necessity in the digital era which continues to develop rapidly. However, to use digital platforms in the world of education, especially in madrasas, guidelines are needed that are in accordance with Islamic principles. The Community Service Team (PkM) consisting of Salmia Syarifuddin, S.S., M.Pd., Dr. Abdollah, M.M., M.Pd., and Irmawaty Hasyim, S.S., M.Hum held a PkM with the theme "Strengthening Halal Education in Digitalizing English Language Learning" at MA Baytul Mukarromah, Bone Regency, Friday, 10 October 2025.

This activity is one of the routine activities that has been scheduled under the auspices of the Indonesian Muslim University Community Service Institute (LPkM UMI). Anton Tofik, SH, Trustee of the Baitul Al Mukarromah Bone Foundation, also welcomed the implementation of this activity. When contacted by the PkM team via WhatsApp, he stated, "Students and teachers in madrasas need digital literacy who are not only technically competent, but also wise from an Islamic ethical perspective."

Digital ethics from digital literacy competencies is the main basis for training materials, teaching students and teachers to use technology wisely, responsibly and ethically. The activity continued with a sharing session involving students and English teacher MA Baytul Mukarromah. In this session, the PkM team involved students from the English Language Education (PBI) and English Literature study programs at the UMI Faculty of Letters, Communication Sciences and Education (FSIKP) to share knowledge about various sources and information on digitizing English teaching materials based on halal concepts. Participants are invited to explore digital learning platforms that are safe, educational and in accordance with Islamic characteristics. Interactive discussions between the PkM team and teachers and students created an exchange of experiences, a shared understanding of the importance of maintaining manners and ethics in the digital world.

It is hoped that this program can become a model for strengthening digital literacy based on Islamic values in the madrasa environment. MA Baytul Mukarromah students are expected to grow into a generation that is digitally competent but remains firm in upholding Islamic values. "The integration of the halal concept in digital learning is a strategic step in producing a generation that is not only academically competent, but also has noble character and is able to maintain its Islamic identity in the midst of global digitalization," said Mia, the nickname of the head of the UMI PkM Team.
