UMI PkM Trains Pattappa Village Residents to Make Handicrafts from Rock. Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) held a Community Service (PkM) program for residents of Pattappa Village, Pujananting District, Barru Regency

The PkM activity carried out was to provide training for residents to make handicrafts from solid sandstone rocks. PkM activities are carried out by three UMI lecturers, namely Ir. Nur Asmiani, ST., MT., IPP and Ir. Firman Nullah Yusuf, ST., MT., IPM from the Mining Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Industrial Technology and Dr. Imamuddin, ST., MM from the Management study program, Faculty of Economics and Business. This activity also involved students from the Mining Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Industrial Technology, UMI.

Nur Asmiani, as team leader, said that this activity was carried out to provide skills to village residents to process the many rock resources in Pattappa Village. According to him, the existing rocks, especially solid sandstone which is abundant in Barru, would be a shame if they were only processed into crushed stone and tombstones.
"Pattappa Village has the potential for solid sandstone which can be processed into miniature forms such as plaques and souvenirs to increase its economic value."
Firman added that the potential for solid sandstone in Pattappa Village could be developed into more economical products, if it was made with a more attractive model. He gave an example, such as gemstones which process stones into more interesting items, but still maintain the natural condition of the rock and the natural condition of the rock is also maintained because it is not massively exploited. Meanwhile, according to Imamuddin, the mini form of processed rock allows the production of more goods and the profits obtained are multiplied.

The existence of this PkM activity helps residents to develop the village's potential. They were very enthusiastic about participating in the training. Participants who attended and took part in training activities were members of the PKK and Karang Taruna Pattappa Village. According to the Head of Pattappa Mansur Village, A. Ma. Pust, the presence of UMI is very useful for training village residents. The hope is that this program will continue.
