
UMI LPkM Lecturer Team Conducts Health Checks and Education on Brain Gym Exercises to improve the Quality of Life and Cognitive Function of the Elderly
On Wednesday, October 16 2024. Community Service Activities by the team of Lecturers from the Indonesian Muslim University Community Service Institute at the Permata Halmatussa'diyah Taklim Assembly Group in Romanglompoa Village, Bontomarannu District, Gowa Regency with the title PKM Optimizing the Quality of Life and Cognitive Function of SMART (Healthy, Independent, Active, Religious, Skilled) Elderly through Educational TrainingBrain Gym.
The Service Team are lecturers and students of the Nursing Study Program, Faculty of Public Health, Indonesian Muslim University. The Head of the Service Team is Wa Ode Sri Asnaniar, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes., M.Kep.: This activity is one of the tridharma of higher education with the aim of improving the quality of life and cognitive function of the elderly. As age increases, elderly people will experience a decline in cognitive function. Brain gym exercises are a series of simple and fun movement exercises that can stimulate, balance and increase brain concentration.
This activity was attended by 30 participants who were members of the Permata Halmatussa'diyah Taklim Council. The activity begins with a health check in the form of blood pressure and blood glucose levels.
Examination of cognitive function and the importance of quality of life was delivered by Ns Nur Wahyuni Munir, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., Sp.Kep., MB. Brain gym training was facilitated by Ns Akbar Asfar, S.Kep., M.Kes., M.Kep. and assisted by members of the UMI Nursing student team.
Mrs. Rukayah as the supervisor of the taklim assembly said that this activity was very useful. Apart from spiritual improvement in the taklim assembly activities, this activity can increase participants' knowledge in improving quality of life and cognitive function.
