UMI Lecturer PKM Team Develops Makassar Tello River Tourism Promotion Flow Through Storytelling
On August 2 2026, the UMI Lecturer PKM Team officially completed all stages of service which ended with evaluation activities and asset handover to Ir. Muh. Ibrahim A. Azis, M.Si. as chairman of the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis).
This service program is organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology through the BIMA (Research and Community Service Information Base) application service. Funded by the Directorate General of Research and Development (Ditjen Risbang) with total funds of IDR. 43,750,000 (1st Year). The service, which started on June 6 2026 with outreach activities, has now produced storytelling products in the form of quality social media content and an official website as a professional information forum.
Dr. Sitti Rahmawati, S.S., M.Pd. as head of the PKM Team emphasized the opportunities and advantages of using storytelling in developing the promotional flow for Tello River Tourism. Storytelling not only promotes, but also creates a greater impact.
"Tourism promotion is not just about the quantity of tourists, but how promotion can instill the value of local wisdom in every tourist, and how it can empower local communities," he said.
The Role of Digital in Developing Tello River Tourism
The contents of the asset handover document are the handover of the Canva Business account license, Filmora Pro account, printed brochures, and the official Tello River Tourism website. This digital technology will
become a means of developing Tello River Tourism.
Storytelling is not enough if it is just told, but it needs to be packaged in an interesting way. In other words, storytelling products require graphic design. Therefore, utilizing the Canva and Filmora applications is the right step.
Likewise, creating social media accounts for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube for Tello River Tourism. This is a big step for Tello River Tourism to spread local wisdom and their attractions."I believe these assets can be a new, better step for Tello River Tourism and the local tourism community," said Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, S.S., M.Pd. as a member of the PKM Team.
Increasing Promotion and Empowerment of Tello River Tourism
A total of 7 storytelling content has been created. Then the content began to be uploaded on July 25 2026, starting from video content, photos, to storytelling brochures.
About 5 days after being uploaded, the seven contents managed to get positive reactions from internet users. A total of 1,500 views, 110 likes, 7 comments and 15 shares were obtained on all Tello River Tourism social media accounts (Instagram, TikTok, Youtube).
This positive reaction indicates that there is a great opportunity for Tello River Tourism to become more widely known by the public. Also as a sign of increasing skills for the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) which participates in managing Tello River Tourism.
But Dr. Abdul Majid, S.Sos., M.Sc. said that it was not the final result. Therefore, evaluation activities were held to determine the next steps in developing Tello River Tourism after the service was completed.
"This result is not the final result. Tourism promotion must be carried out consistently and sustainably so that the Tello River Tourism continues to be remembered as the pride of the city of Makassar," he said.
