UMI PMM 2026 Pharmacy and Midwifery Team Performs Service to PKK Group and Posyandu Cadres in Pandang Village

Makassar, 5 August 2026 — The 2026 Student Community Service Team (PMM) from the Pharmacy Study Program and Midwifery Study Program at the Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) carried out community service activities targeting the PKK group and Posyandu cadres in Pandang Village, Panakkukang District, Makassar City.
This activity, which will be held from 16 July to 5 August 2026, is part of the Community Service by Students (PMM) program funded by the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DPPM), Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (DIKTISAINTEK) in 2026.
The series of activities are designed to increase the knowledge and capacity of PKK groups and Posyandu cadres in supporting community health services, especially related to maternal and child health and the appropriate use of medicines.

The Importance of Community Service

Service team leader, apt. Sukmawati, S.Farm., M.Farm., said that PMM activities are a real form of contribution from students and universities to society.
According to Sukmawati, service activities are not only a means for students to apply the knowledge gained during the education process, but also a medium for building collaboration and providing direct benefits to society.
"Community service activities are one form of higher education's contribution in providing solutions and increasing community capacity. Through this PMM activity, students can implement the knowledge gained in college while learning to understand community needs directly," said Sukmawati.
He added that PKK and Posyandu cadres have an important role because they are close to the community. It is hoped that increasing the knowledge and skills of cadres can strengthen their role in helping convey health information to families in Pandang Subdistrict.

Maternal and Child Health Education: Focus on Preeclampsia and Stunting

One of the main activities in the service series is maternal and child health education, with material that focuses on preeclampsia and stunting. This material was delivered by Nurul Husnah, S.ST., M.Keb.
Nurul Husnah explained that maternal and child health is an important aspect that needs attention from pregnancy to the child's growth and development period.
"Posyandu cadres have a very important role in helping the community recognize the health conditions of mothers and children. An understanding of preeclampsia is needed so that cadres can recognize the signs and risk factors and encourage pregnant women to undergo examinations at health facilities," explained Nurul Husnah.
Apart from preeclampsia, participants also received material about stunting. According to him, stunting prevention needs to be carried out on an ongoing basis through attention to mother's health from the time of pregnancy, fulfilling nutrition, monitoring child growth and development, as well as appropriate parenting patterns.
"Prevention of stunting is not only carried out when the child is experiencing growth problems, but needs to be started during pregnancy and carried out continuously. Posyandu cadres can be one of the driving forces in providing education and encouraging families to monitor the health of mothers and children regularly," he added.

Increase Awareness about Medication Adherence

The next material given to the PKK group and Posyandu cadres was the importance of compliance with taking medication, which was conveyed by apt. Andi Maulana K. Petta Lolo, S.Farm.,
M.Pharm.Klin.
In this counseling, participants were given an understanding of the importance of taking medication according to the rules for use, dosage, time of administration, as well as the instructions of health workers.
Andi Maulana explained that patient compliance in using medication is an important factor that can support the success of treatment.
"Compliance with taking medication is very important to ensure that therapy can provide optimal results. Patients should use medication according to the dosage and rules that have been determined and not stop treatment or change the dosage independently without consulting with a health professional," said Andi Maulana.
He also emphasized the important role of cadres and families in reminding and accompanying family members who are undergoing treatment.
"Cadres can help provide basic information to the public regarding the correct use of medicines and remind the public to always consult with health workers if they experience problems or have questions regarding the medicines they are using," he added.

Strengthen the Role of PKK and Posyandu Cadres

The series of PMM 2026 Pharmacy and Midwifery activities at UMI in Pandang Village is expected to increase knowledge and awareness of PKK groups and Posyandu cadres in supporting public health.
Through this activity, students not only apply the academic knowledge gained during lectures, but also learn to interact and identify community health needs directly.
It is hoped that the synergy between UMI, the PKK group, Posyandu cadres and the Pandang Village community can continue to be developed so that service activities do not stop with program implementation, but provide a sustainable impact on improving the quality of community health.
The PMM 2026 activity, which took place from July 16 to August 5 2026, is a form of UMI Pharmacy and Midwifery students' commitment to supporting community empowerment through promotive and preventive activities in the health sector.
