TRANSFORMATION OF SCIENTIFIC LITERACY FOR TEACHERS AT SDIT WAHDAH ISLAMIYAH 01 MAKASSAR THROUGH DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY BASED WRITING TRAINING

Makassar – Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) has again demonstrated its commitment to strengthening scientific literacy in the digital era through Community Service (PkM) activities with the theme "Digital Technology-Based Scientific Literacy Transformation in the World of Education". This activity was held on Friday, October 24 2025, at the Wahdah Islamiyah 01 Integrated Islamic Elementary School, Antang, Makassar, South Sulawesi.

This activity was attended by Elementary School Teachers who participated in the practical session. A total of approximately 90 teachers who attended seemed very enthusiastic about following the series of material presented by the UMI Lecturer team from the Faculty of Letters and the Faculty of Computer Science (FIKOM).

The speakers who attended included Andi Puspitasari, M.Pd from the UMI Faculty of Letters, Ir. Nia Kurniati, S.Kom., M.Kom, MTA, Mardiyyah Hasnawi, S.Kom., MT., MTA, and Ir. Syahrul Mubarak Abdullah, S.Kom., M.Kom., MTA from the UMI Faculty of Computer Science. This activity was also assisted by students from the Faculty of Computer Science and Faculty of Letters, UMI, who accompanied participants during the digital practice session.

According to Andi Puspitasari, M.Pd, this activity aims to improve teachers' abilities in understanding and implementing technology-based scientific literacy.

"Teachers are the main actors in education. Through good scientific literacy and the ability to utilize technology, teachers can create more interesting and relevant learning for students," he said.

Meanwhile, Ir. Syahrul Mubarak Abdullah, S.Kom., M.Kom., MTA explained that strengthening digital literacy is no longer an option, but a necessity.

"In the digital era, the ability to sort valid information and present material creatively is very important. Through this activity, we want to equip teachers with digital skills that can be directly applied in the classroom," said Nia.

This PkM activity consists of several series of materials, including:

  1. Introduction to Scientific Literacy and the Importance of Information Validation,
  2. Utilization of Digital Technology in Learning,
  3. Practice of Making Multimedia Materials for Teachers,
  4. Introduction to Digital Presentation and Collaboration Support Applications,
  5. Technology-Based Learning Simulation in the Classroom.

Participants also had the opportunity to take part in interactive sessions, such as exploring educational applications and introducing technology as a learning tool.

In his opening remarks, one of the hopes of one of the school teachersstated "It is no longer enough for teachers to master teaching material, but they also have to be able tointegrating technology as part of a learning strategy” apart from that hesaid "This collaboration with UMI is very useful. Our teachers got itnew insights regarding digital teaching methods," he said.

This PkM activity ended with a discussion and group photo session. The schoolexpressed his appreciation to UMI for its contribution in improving skillsdigital teachers and students. Through activities like this, UMI hopes to continue to providereal impact in the world of education, especially in facing the era of transformationtechnology is increasingly rapid.
