TRANSFORMATION OF PANGNGADAKKANG READING HOUSE TOWARDS THE DIGITAL ERA

Takalar โ€” Pangngadakkang Reading House in Bontokassi Village, South Galesong District, Takalar Regency, is entering a new chapter in efforts to strengthen the community's literacy culture by adopting digital technology. Through a program entitled "Transformation of the Panggadakkang Reading House Towards the Digital Era," this activity took place from September to October 2025 and was attended by 25 local reading house administrators.

The opening event was lively with the presence of the Head of Bontokassi Village, Muh. Aksin Suarso, S.S., M.Pd., who officially opened the activity. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of society's readiness to face the flow of digitalization.

"We must not close ourselves off from change. Digitalization is part of the process of progress. The presence of the Pangngadakkang Reading House is proof of our readiness to welcome a better future," he said enthusiastically.

This program is the result of collaboration between the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPkM) of the Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) and a team of academics who provide intensive assistance to reading house administrators. The UMI team consists of Dr. Ir. Dolly Indra, M.M.SI., MTA, Erick Irawadi Alwi, S.Kom., M.Eng., MTA, as well as three young academics: Andi Fathimatuz Zahra, Mustika Octavia, and Salsabila Aurelia.

This collaboration is a concrete form of UMI's commitment to strengthening the digital literacy capacity of village communities so they are able to utilize technology to manage information and learning resources independently.

During the training, participants received various practical materials, ranging from graphic design using Canva, data management and administration using Microsoft Excel, to digital literacy ethics. Apart from that, administrators are encouraged to actively promote literacy activitiesthrough social media so that Pangngadakkang Reading House becomes more widely known, especially byyoung generation.

This transformation is a strategic step in making the Reading House not only a...conventional reading room, but also as a modern technology-based literacy center.With full support from the village government and collaboration with LPkM UMI, Rumah BacaIt is hoped that Pangngadakkang will be an inspirational example for other reading houses in IndonesiaTakalar Regency and South Sulawesi region.

โ€œThis initiative is the first step towards a literate, creative and ready Bontokassi societyfacing the challenges of the digital era," concluded Dr. Dolly Indra.
