
UMI Holds Soybean Product Diversification Training, Encouraging Added Value and Community Economic Independence
Maros, 16 July 2026 — The Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) Community Service Team carried out a Community Service Program in Leang-Leang Village, Bantimurung District, Maros Regency, Thursday (16/7). This activity, funded by the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DPPM) of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) for the 2026 Fiscal Year, aims to increase the added value of soybean commodities through diversification of processed products based on local potential.
The program was attended by 40 participants from the Siparingerrang Farmers Group, Borongpaoe Farmers Group, and the local community.The activity was opened by the Head of Leang-Leang Village, Syaharuddin, S.IP., M.M., who expressed his appreciation for the presence of the UMI service team in supporting increasing community capacity through agricultural product processing innovation.
Head of the Service Team, Prof. Dr. Ir. Aminah, S.P., M.P., explained that the program is not only oriented towards increasing soybean production, but also encouraging the community to be able to process the harvest into products of higher economic value.
"Through product diversification, soybeans are no longer marketed only as raw materials, but can be developed into various food products that have a higher selling value while opening up new business opportunities for the community," he said.
The training was carried out through direct demonstrations regarding the processing of sorted soybean seeds into various processed products, ranging from soy milk, soy sticks from soy dregs, tempeh and tempeh chips.
Apart from training, the service team also handed over production equipment assistance from the DPPM Kemdiktisaintek to the Siparingerrang Farmers Group and the Borongpaoe Farmers Group as a form of support for the sustainability of the community empowerment program.

The service team consists of Prof. Dr. Yusriani, S.K.M., M.Kes., Prof. Dr. Ir. St. Sabahannur, M.Sc., and Dr. Ir. Marliana, M.Sc. who also provided assistance during the activity.
Through this program, it is hoped that the community will be able to develop soybean-based businesses independently so that they can increase income while strengthening the local economy by utilizing village potential.
