The Community Service Team from the Faculty of Letters, Communication Sciences and Education, Indonesian Muslim University (UMI), chaired by Andi Muttaqin and Khadijah, carried out outreach activities entitled "Implementation of Tourism Communication through Tourism Awareness Counseling" for OSIS students at Syech Yusuf Insan Scholar High School, Pattalassang, Gowa Regency, last week, November 17 2025.
This activity aims to raise awareness among the younger generation of the importance of the role of communication in tourism development, while encouraging students to become agents of change in promoting regional tourism potential. Through an educational and interactive approach, the service team delivered material related to the concept of tourism communication, Sapta Pesona, as well as the importance of student contributions in creating a friendly and sustainable tourism environment.
The team leader, Andi Muttaqin, explained that the school has great potential as a space for developing tourism-conscious character. "Students are a generation that is very close to digital media. With knowledge of tourism communications, they can become a driving force in promoting local destinations in creative and effective ways," he said.
Likewise, Khadijah emphasized that tourism awareness education at the student level will create a long-term impact on society. "When students understand how to be good hosts and are able to communicate positively, they can have a big influence on their families and the surrounding environment," he added.
The OSIS students of Insan Scholar Syech Yusuf High School seemed enthusiastic about taking part in the counseling. Apart from getting material, they were also involved in discussion sessions, communication simulations with tourists, as well as creating creative content on regional tourism themes.
Principal of Insan Scholar Syech Yusuf High School, Drs. Aminuddin expressed his high appreciation for the implementation of this activity. "We are very grateful to the UMI team. Activities like this are very useful in shaping students' character as agents of change, especially in supporting the tourism development of Gowa Regency. Students need to understand that they can make a real contribution to their region," he said.
By carrying out this activity, it is hoped that students will be able to apply tourism awareness values in their daily lives and take a role in improving the image and tourist attraction of Gowa Regency through positive and creative communication.
This community service activity is a real form of UMI's contribution in encouraging the development of human resources with a tourism perspective, as well as strengthening the synergy between the world of education and society in advancing regional potential.
