LPMD UMI Holds Community Service Workshop

UMI Makassar โ€“ In an effort to provide understanding to UMI lecturers about the importance of carrying out community service activities as part of implementing the tri dharma of higher education, namely education, research and community service as well as motivating lecturers to continue to have a spirit of community service through community research based on improving people's living standards and institutional development. This was conveyed by the Chancellor of UMI Prof. Dr. Hj. Masrurah Mokhtar, MA before opening the community service workshop for UMI lecturers, in the hall of the UMI LPMD Office, UMI Tower, 3rd Floor (17/4).

Present at the event, Chairman of LPMD UMI Prof.Dr. H.Salim Basalamah, MSi., LPMD Secretary Drs.H.Rauf Assagaf, M.PD., Head of Division. UMI Assisted Village, who is also the chairman of the committee, Dr.Ir. Hj. Netty Said, MS.

He continued, lecturers are professional educators and scientists with the main task of transforming, developing and disseminating the knowledge they have through education, research and community service. Therefore, it is hoped that lecturers will increase their passion for research and service which produces scientific work for the development of the quality of life of society through a series of community service as a form of equal responsibility in the fields of education and teaching. He also expressed concern if a lecturer could only teach, but was not competent in research and serving the community. According to him, the spirit of a lecturer lies in these three tridharmas.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the UMI Community Service and Da'wah Institute (LPMD) Prof. Dr. H. Salim Basalamah, said that this activity aims to improve the ability of lecturers to access various research and service opportunities based on the quality and quantity of schemes or levels of community service created by UMI lecturers. Apart from that, it aims to provide understanding to lecturers about the importance of community service activities and at the same time motivate UMI lecturers to always have a spirit of community service.

Meanwhile, the Chair of the Committee in his report said that this activity lasted one day, April 17 2014 and was attended by 40 participants from UMI lecturers from 13 existing faculties. By presenting resource person Prof.Dr.Ir.H.Abd. Makhsud, DEA (Role of Lecturers in community service programs), Dr.H.M.Arfah Shiddiq,MA (Motivation for community service), Prof.Dr. H. Syahnur Said, MS (Procedures, timing and implementation of community service), Prof. Dr. Mulyadi Nursi, M.Si (Strategy for success of the IbM-IbW service program and discussion of participant proposals), Dr. H.Muhammad Yahya, M.Kes., M.Eng (Strategy for success of the IbIKK-IbPE service program and discussion of participant proposals.
