Optimizing Student Health and Fitness Through Healthy Lifestyle Education and Physical Activity at the Muhammadiyah Kampung Bharu Guidance Studio, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur—Team of lecturers at the Faculty of Public Health, Indonesian Muslim University(UMI) consisting of Chairman Dr. Nurfardiansyah B, SKM., M.Kes., and members Dr.Tutik Agustini, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., and Prof. Dr. Yusriani, SKM., M.Kes.,implementing the International Community Service Program (PKM).entitled “Optimizing Student Health and Fitness Through Healthy Lifestyle Education andPhysical Activity at the Muhammadiyah Kampung Bharu Guidance Studio, Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia."

This activity was held at the Muhammadiyah Kampung Baru Guidance Studio, KualaMud, and followed by students who took part in informal learning in the studiothe. This program is a concrete manifestation of the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher EducationUMI in the field of community service in the international arena.

According to the team's initial observations, students in the studio showed low activityphysical fitness and lack of awareness of the importance of physical fitness. this conditiondue to the lack of structured sports activities and lack of education regardinghealthy lifestyles.

Team leader, Dr. Nurfardiansyah B, SKM., M.Kes., explained that physical fitnessis an important factor that influences overall health.

“A person with good physical fitness will have stronger enduranceand a better quality of life. Therefore, it is important for children and teenagers to be activephysically through fun and targeted sports activities," he said.

As a solution, the UMI FKM lecturer team carried out a series of activities which included:education on healthy lifestyles, training in physical activities and simple sports, as well asmonitoring student health status. This program is designed to encourage changebehavior towards an active and healthy lifestyle.

Prof. Dr. Yusriani, SKM., M.Kes., added that the approach usedThis activity is participatory and educational, so that students can be directly involvedin the process of learning and practicing.

“We use group discussion methods, demonstrations, and light sports practice.This approach helps students understand the importance of exercise and health together"fun and applicable," he said.

The team also involves accompanying teachers and studio managers to ensure sustainabilityactivity. The expected results of this program include:

  1. Students actively participate in weekly sports activities at school or studio.
  2. Partners have sports facilities that are better maintained and meet standards.
  3. Increasing student awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
  4. Arrangement of physical education learning modules.
  5. Scientific publications and dissemination in mass media.

Apart from implementing training, the team also evaluates knowledge and skillsstudents use a pre-post test questionnaire as well as a skills checklist, to assesschanges in their knowledge and abilities before and after the activity.

Tutik Agustini, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., emphasized that this activity was not justsports, but also the formation of healthy character and discipline from an early age.

“We want to instill awareness that maintaining fitness is not just about the bodya strong one, but also about a healthy mindset and positive lifestyle," he said.

This activity confirms LPkM UMI's commitment to continue to contributedevelopment of global public health, while supporting SustainableDevelopment Goals (SDGs) point 3 about Good Health and Well-being and point 4 aboutQuality Education.
