Cadre Empowerment to Optimize Health Through Education on the Importance of Iron and Calcium for Pregnant Women in Tellumpoccoe Village, Marusu District, Maros Regency
Maros, 2025 — The Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) lecturer team carried out Community Service (PkM) activities entitled"Empowerment of Cadres as Health Optimization through Education on the Importance of Iron and Calcium for Pregnant Women in Tellumpoccoe Village, Marusu District, Maros Regency."
The composition of this service team is Chairperson Sitti Nurana, S.ST., M.Keb (Lecturer in the Midwifery Study Program, FKM UMI) with team members Drg. Fadil Abdillah Arifin, Ph.D., Sp.KG, (FKG Lecturer)
In its implementation, Sitti Nurana as Chairperson delivered education about the importance of Fe tablets during pregnancy.
And Member Drg. Fadil Abdillah Arifin Delivers Counseling About the Importance of Calcium During Pregnancy to Support Healthy Bones and Teeth for Mother and Fetus
This activity was successfully carried out with financial support from the Indonesian Muslim University Community Service Institute (LPkM).
The implementation of the activity received full support from the Tellumpoccoe Village Government through the Village Head H. Danial, and was attended by village health cadres who were the main participants.
- Education on Iron and Calcium for the Health of Pregnant Women
This activity aims to increase the knowledge and capacity of health cadres in providing education to pregnant women regarding the importance of fulfilling iron and calcium during pregnancy. Deficiency of these two substances is still a frequently encountered health problem and can cause anemia, preeclampsia, and impaired fetal growth and development.
During the activity, participants received material about:
- Functions and benefits of iron and calcium for pregnant women
- Local food sources rich in iron and calcium
- The correct way to consume supplements is according to the recommendations of health workers
- Strategy for delivering effective education to the community
- Collaboration and Impact
In her speech, the Head of the Community Service Team, Sitti Nurana, S.ST., M.Keb, said that this activity was a concrete manifestation of the role of universities in supporting government programs in the field of maternal and child health.
"Through this activity, we hope that cadres will be able to become agents of change in society, especially in increasing awareness of the importance of nutrition during pregnancy," he said.
The activity closed with the handover of Medical Equipment and Educational Media to the cadres as a means of supporting posyandu activities.
With this activity, it is hoped that health cadres in Tellumpoccoe Village will become more empowered in providing counseling and assistance to pregnant women, and will be able to become active partners of the village government in creating a healthy and prosperous society.
