Strengthening Financial Management and Transparency of Surau Funds Through an Excel-Based Digital Recording System Gombak Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur โ€“ A team of lecturers and students from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Indonesian Muslim University (FEB UMI) implemented a program for Strengthening Financial Management and Transparency of Surau Funds through an Excel-Based Digital Recording System in the Gombak area, Kuala Lumpur.

This activity was led by Dr. Andi Nurwanah with team member Dr. Hj. Rastina Kalla, S.E., M.Sc. and companion Dr. Tenriwaru, S.E., M.Sc., Ak. CA from FEB Indonesian Muslim University, Makassar, collaborates with Puan Suzita Yusof, Head of Surau in Gembok, Malaysia who is the main partner of the program.

This program aims to increase the capacity of surau administrators to manage finances more accurately, efficiently and transparently through the use of a Microsoft Excel-based digital recording system. With this system, surau fund income and expenditure reports can be prepared automatically, standardized and easily audited.

Dr. Andi Nurwanah explained that digitizing the finances of religious institutions is a strategic step in strengthening public accountability. "Surau is not only a place of worship, but also a center for social activities. Therefore, transparent and professional fund management is a primary need so that the congregation's trust continues to increase," he said.

Meanwhile, Puan Suzita Yusof expressed her appreciation for UMI's initiative. According to him, this training opened new insights for surau administrators in managing people's funds in a more orderly and planned manner.

"We were really helped. The Excel system taught is easy to use and can be directly applied to record every daily transaction," he said.

This program is also part of UMI's commitment to supporting the implementation of digitalization of community-based financial governance and strengthening international cooperation networks, especially in the ASEAN region.

With this digital recording system, it is hoped that the surau in Gombak can become a model for implementing good governance of religious institutions that is accountable, transparent and effective for the surrounding community. The participants who attended consisted of housewives, workers who live in Codominium Taman Melati Utama, 53100 Kuala Lumpur and they were happy to be given material on strengthening financial management including digitizing accounting.
