
INCREASING THE CAPACITY OF PKK WOMEN IN PADANG LAMPE VILLAGE IN UTILIZING AI TECHNOLOGY TO SUPPORT FAMILY FOOD SECURITY
Pangkep, 11 November 2025 — The Faculty of Computer Science, Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) Makassar shows real innovation in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technology with community empowerment programs. Through Community Service (PKM) activities, a team of lecturers and students provided training to PKK women in Padang Lampe Village, Ma'rang District, Pangkajene and Islands Regency, South Sulawesi.
The activity with the theme "Increasing the Capacity of PKK Women in Padang Lampe Village in Using AI Technology to Support Family Food Security" was attended by 25 participants who were local PKK member mothers. This program takes place on Jl. Moh. Ali, Padang Lampe, with the main focus on the application of AI technology in detecting chicken meat freshness.
This PKM activity was chaired by Siska Anraeni, S.Kom., M.T., MCF., with members Ir. Firdaus, S.T., M.T., and accompanied by two students from the UMI Faculty of Computer Science. This team carries an important mission to introduce digital technology as a practical solution in maintaining family food security.
In her speech, Siska Anraeni, S.Kom., M.T., MCF. explained that this activity aims to improve the skills of PKK mothers in utilizing the latest technology, especially Artificial Intelligence.
"AI technology is no longer something that is far from everyday life. Through this training, we want to provide practical knowledge to PKK women so that they can use technology to ensure the quality of the food consumed by their families, especially in detecting the freshness of chicken meat," said Siska.
Meanwhile, Ir. Firdaus, S.T., M.T. adding that introduction and applicationAI technology to support family food safety, especially in freshness detectionchicken meat, it is hoped that it can provide relevant skills for PKK mothers.
"With the ability to detect fresh chicken meat and tiren (dead without being slaughtered) chickens, ladies and gentlemenwill be better prepared to face challenges in the field of technology and contribute deeply"Improving the quality of food in families and communities," he explained.
This activity is divided into three main sessions. First, socialization, introduction and useArtificial Intelligence technology in detecting fresh chicken meat and tiren chicken. On sessionIn this session, participants were introduced to the basic concepts of AI and how this technology worksapplied in everyday life, especially for food safety.
The second session discussed the application of Android-based technology as a supporting toolin determining whether a chicken is fresh or not. The PKM team demonstrated howMobile applications can be a practical and easily accessible solution for the general public.
The highlight of the activity was the third session in the form of training on using the chicken meat detection applicationfresh and tiren chicken directly. The participants seemed enthusiastic about trying the applicationby using photos of chicken meat samples to practice. They actively ask questionsregarding how to use the application and its development potential for food ingredient detectionother.
The participants responded positively to this activity. They feel helped byThere is technology that can make it easier to choose quality food ingredients, all at onceproud to be able to use advanced technology that previously felt foreign to them.
Through this activity, the UMI Faculty of Computer Science PKM team hopes to encourage literacydigital among the community, especially housewives, while supporting the programtechnology-based food safety. In the future, it is hoped that a similar program can be expanded toother villages to increase community awareness and skills in utilizationtechnology for family welfare.
