Rehabilitation of Phonetic Function by Installing Dentures for Perfect Al-Quran Reading

Teeth have an important role in the human body, losing teeth from a person's mouth will
resulting in anatomical, physiological and functional changes. Function of teeth
general is for aesthetic mastication and speaking function. Disturbances in phonetic function from tooth loss are also a problem that can affect a person's life.

As Muslims we are encouraged to read the Koran properly according to
Makhroj letters. People whose teeth have been removed will find it difficult, especially the front teeth, to pronounce the hijaiyah letters correctly. This is because there are several letters whose pronunciation requires the tip of the tongue to touch the incisal part of the anterior teeth. Therefore, two teaching staff from the Faculty of Medicine, Indonesian Muslim University (FK UMI), respectively Drg. Chusnul Chotimah, Sp.Pros as Head of the UMI Dentist Profession Study Program and Drg Maghfirah Amiruddin, Sp. Pros and DR. Nursetiawati M.Ag.Ph.D as a member carries out Community Partnership Internal Service.

This service aims to rehabilitate or restore this phonetic function by
making removable partial dentures made from acrylic in cases of loss of maxillary anterior teeth. Before using dentures, some hijaiyah letters which involve the tongue and jaw incisors in their pronunciation cannot be pronounced perfectly. After treatment with removable dentures and pronunciation training, his pronunciation improved.

Through this service, the public will better understand the function of dentures and the consequences that can occur if missing teeth are not replaced.
