UMI Service Team Holds PKM Empowerment of the Masseddi Ati Farmer Group Through Health Education Technology and Processing of Processed Corn Product Innovations Towards an Independent Healthy Village in Bone Regency

Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) Makassar lecturers held Community Partnership Program (PKM) activities in Laccori Village, Dua Boccoe District, Bone Regency, South Sulawesi.

This PKM was implemented because of the high incidence of diabetes mellitus in farmers. This has an impact on decreasing work productivity, which results in a decrease in farmers' income.

This activity was carried out by the Service Team consisting of Dr. Dr. H. Muh. Khidri Alwi., M. Kes, Dr. Ir. Edy, M.P., M.Pd, Dr. Andi Asrina, SKM., M.Kes and Prof. Dr. Yusriani, SKM., M.Kes in partnership with the Masseddi Ati Farmers Group, Laccori Village, Dua Boccoe District, Bone Regency, chaired by Mr. Tambare.

According to Dr. H. Muh. Khidri Alwi., M.Kes as Head of the Service Team, this activity received funding assistance from the Directorate of Research, Technology and Community Service, Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia in 2024 and has been socialized to the local government and the community who are members of the Masseddi Ati Farmer Group, Laccori Village.

The community welcomed this activity with great enthusiasm, coupled with the provision of assistance in the form of corn threshing machines, corn flouring machines, health education media, materials and tools for processing corn into noodles and corn sticks. The community hopes that activities that are very beneficial for them will continue to be carried out, plus the latest knowledge can be obtained through materials presented by resource persons that are in accordance with their respective scientific expertise.

"The first day was a presentation of material regarding Diabetes, Diet and Nutritional Status by the Head of the Service Team Dr. Dr. H. Muh. Khidri Alwi., M.Kes who has experience as a mentor"

Dr. Dr. H. Muh. Khidri Alwi., M.Kes admitted that this PKM activity received a positive response from the local government and heads of farmer groups.

Meanwhile, PKM Team Member Dr. Ir. Edy, M.P., M.Pd explained material regarding the Benefits of Corn Seed Threshing Technology and Corn Flour Processing. Material regarding Health Education Media was delivered by Dr. Andi Asrina, SKM., M.Kes

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Yusriani, SKM., M. Kes presented material about processing corn flour into noodles and corn sticks.

Apart from the material provided by Indonesian Muslim University lecturers who received a good response from the surrounding community. On the second day, the community practiced processing corn flour into noodles and corn sticks. This, apart from increasing community knowledge, also increased community creativity regarding corn processing.

After this activity takes place, the community can process the corn they own into food that has a high selling value, not just boiled, fried and grilled, but can produce new products in the form of noodles and corn sticks.

"With this activity, we can learn more about how to process corn so that it becomes food that has sales value," said one member of the Masseddi Ati farmer group.

"We hope that activities like this will continue, so that our people will have a more open mind regarding corn processing. Because what people usually do is sell the corn they have so that it can be processed into animal feed. In fact, this corn can be processed into flour and even corn sticks which can become MSMEs in our area," said the Head of Laccori Village.
