UMI Pkm Team Holds Education on the Use of Vertical Gardens for Farmer Groups in Maros

Funded by the Community Service Institute (LPkM)  Indonesian Muslim University (UMI), the PkM Team of UMI lecturers, held a Community Service (PKM) with the title 'Empowerment of the Kampoeng Ce'de Farmer Group through Utilization EducationVertical Gardensas an Integrated Agricultural System. This activity will take place on Saturday, November 2 2024 at the Kampoeng Ce'de Farmers Group Gallery on Jl. DR. Ratulangi No. 107, Allepolea, District. Lau, Maros Regency, South Sulawesi.

The service activity was led by Gusti Hardyanti Musda, ST, M.Sc (Lecturer in the Architecture Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, UMI), and accompanied by Andi Azrarul Amri, SP, M.Si (Lecturer in the Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, UMI) and 2 students from the Architecture Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, UMI.

Gusti Hardyanti Musda, ST, M.Sc as head of the UMI PkM Team, said that the agricultural sector is one of the sectors that has an important role in improving the welfare of society in Indonesia, but currently the population is increasing, the demand for land for development is also increasing, so there are many land conversion crises which result in limited land for agriculture. It is hoped that the presence of the Vertical Garden can solve this, where an integrated agricultural system can also be implemented, especially on narrow land in the middle of urban areas. Especially if it can be applied by all levels of society.

The Kampoeng Ce'de farmer group gallery is one of the groups that actively carries out agricultural activities on limited land. However, land use, variations in crop cultivation and productivity levels are not yet optimal. Therefore, by introducingVertical GardensThese farmer groups can increase their crop yields and income and can implement an integrated agricultural system that is environmentally friendly and sustainable. Apart from that, vertical gardens can be an example for other farmer groups to develop creative and sustainable farming systems.

In this service activity, there were many participants present, including Imran SP, M.Si, who acted as chairman and supervisor of the farmer group, 10 people from the farmer group and three lecturers from Maros Muslim University (UMMA), namely Asriyani SP, M.Si and Mirnawati SP, M.Si, who acted as lecturers at the UMMA Faculty of Science and Technology; and Dr. Ir. Nirawati, S.Hut, M.Hut, as Deputy Dean 1 of UMMA. The participants were very enthusiastic, as seen by the many discussions that took place during the activity process, continued Gusti Hardyanti Musda, ST, M.Sc.

As Chair of the Kampoeng Ce'de Farmers Group, Imran SP, M.Si in his speech, said that they hoped that the partnership between the Kampoeng Ce'de Farmers Group and UMI would continue, especially regarding the continued application of Vertical Garden technology as an Integrated Agricultural Solution. With activities like this, the Kampoeng Ce'de Farmers Group will be able to continue to develop both in terms of the quality of human resources and the results of the farmer group's agricultural activities.
