UMI and UNHAS Train Pattappa Youth Organization, Donate Innovative Rock Cutting and Polishing Tools

Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) and Hasanuddin University (Unhas) collaborated in the Community Service Program (PkM) in Pattappa Village, Barru Regency. This activity aims to improve the skills of Karang Taruna while supporting the community in processing the potential of local rocks.

This program was carried out thanks to the support of BIMA - Ministry of Education and Technology, and is expected to be able to encourage the birth of rock-based product innovations as a characteristic of Pattappa Village.

The lecturer team involved included Nur Asmiani and Alfian Nawir (UMI) and Gerard Antonini Duma (UNHAS). They provide training and knowledge about the use of unique rock resources in Pattappa, which is considered similar to the Karang Sambung area in Central Java because it has a variety of rock types.

As a form of concrete support, the team also handed over rock cutting and polishing tools that were specially assembled to suit the hardness level of Pattappa rock (Mohs scale 7–8, equivalent to quartz). This tool is designed according to K3 standards, is ergonomic and durable.
