UMI Disseminates Smart Corn Planting (SCP) Technology to Support Modern and Sustainable Corn Planting in Bulukumba
Bulukumba, 27 June 2026 – Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) has again demonstrated its commitment to implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education through the implementation of the 2026 BIMA Diktisaintek Community Service Program (PkM).
Through an activity entitled "Dissemination of Smart Corn Planting (SCP) Technology in the Modern and Sustainable Corn Planting Process", the service team introduced innovative corn planting technology to the farming community in Ballasaraja Village, Bulukumba Regency.
This activity is in partnership with the Darincing 1 Farmers Group as the target group in implementing Smart Corn Planting (SCP) technology. The program aims to increase the efficiency of the corn planting process through the use of appropriate technology that is able to speed up work in the field, produce more uniform planting distances, and
supports increased productivity and sustainability of farming businesses.
The service program is led by Ir. Anwar Robbo, S.P., M.SP., M.P., lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture and Mining Land Bioremediation, Indonesian Muslim University as Team Leader. This activity was also supported by two team members, namely Najirah, S.Kom., M.T., lecturer in Informatics Engineering, Handayani University, and Ir. Muliaty Galib, M.P., lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture and
UMI Mining Land Bioremediation. This cross-disciplinary collaboration is a strength in presenting solutions that combine agricultural technology with the use of information technology to support the transformation of the agricultural sector towards the digital era.
In its implementation, the activity began with outreach regarding the importance of agricultural modernization and the use of mechanization in corn cultivation. The service team explained that the use of Smart Corn Planting (SCP) technology can help farmers reduce dependence on labor, increase planting time efficiency, and
produces a more uniform plant population. This uniformity is an important factor in supporting plant growth and increasing crop yields.
Apart from delivering the material, participants also took part in a field demonstration on how to operate the Smart Corn Planting (SCP) equipment. In this session, members of the Darincing 1 Farmers Group had the opportunity to try directly using tools on agricultural land. Assistance is provided starting from the process of setting up tools, planting techniques,
to maintenance so that the equipment can be utilized optimally in daily cultivation activities.

Head of the Service Team, Ir. Anwar Robbo, S.P., M.SP., M.P., said that this activity was a real form of contribution from universities in transferring innovation results to society. According to him, universities have a responsibility to present applicable solutions to the various challenges faced by farmers, so that research results do not just stop as scientific work, but also provide direct benefits to society.
The participants' enthusiasm was visible during the activity. The farmers actively discussed various obstacles faced in cultivating corn, as well as providing input regarding the application of technology in the field. This interaction is an important part of the technology dissemination process because it allows the innovation to be introduced
adapted to local community needs and conditions.
Through the 2026 BIMA Diktisaintek Community Service Program, Indonesian Muslim University hopes that Smart Corn Planting (SCP) technology can be widely adopted by the community so that it can increase the efficiency of corn farming, strengthen agricultural productivity, and encourage the realization of a modern, competitive and sustainable agricultural system. This activity also strengthens the synergy between universities and the community in producing innovations that have a real impact on national agricultural development and improving the welfare of farmers in Bulukumba Regency.
