UMI Serves: Coconut Dregs Processing Innovation to Increase the Economic Independence of Bontolangkasa Village, Gowa
UMI lecturers took innovative steps to empower the economy of the Bontolangkasa village community, Gowa, the Community Service Team (PKM) of the Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) Makassar held training on processing coconut dregs waste into products of high economic value in Bontolangkasa Village, Gowa Regency. This activity targets the local Family Welfare Empowerment Group (PKK) and aims to increase the economic independence of village communities.
With the theme "Independent Economic Empowerment of the Bontolangkasa Village Community through the Development of PKK Groups with Integrated Coconut Processing Training and Utilization of Coconut Pulp Waste," this event was attended by the Head of North Bontolangkasa Village, Muh. Ridwan, who welcomed the initiative of the UMI PKM team. He hopes that this activity can be the beginning of sustainable collaboration between universities and villages.
The UMI PKM team, which consists of interdisciplinary experts, not only provided training but also donated an integrated coconut grating machine and coconut dregs flouring machine to PKK Bontolangkasa. This training was guided by Mahmuddin, who succeeded in motivating mothers to utilize the potential of coconut dregs waste.
The Chair of the UMI PKM Team, Gusnawati, explained that this activity was born from observations which showed the great potential for coconut dregs waste to be processed into economically valuable products.
Coconut dregs flour, for example, has high nutritional content and can be used as a basic ingredient for MSME products.
With this activity, the UMI PKM team hopes to help increase the economic independence of the Bontolangkasa Village community and open up new opportunities for the development of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the village.
This PKM activity is fully supported by the 2025 DPPM PKM Grant from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek).
