Nisombalia, October 6, 2024โ As part of efforts to improve community welfare, a new innovation has been introduced in Nisombalia Village. This innovation utilizes crab shell waste which is usually wasted, by processing it into organic fertilizer which can be used for agriculture. This program is expected to open up new business opportunities for local communities while supporting environmentally friendly agricultural practices.
Crab shells, which have only been considered waste, actually have a high calcium content and are very good for improving soil structure and increasing soil fertility. With proper processing, these crab shells can be converted into organic fertilizer which is not only beneficial for agriculture, but can also become a new source of income for the people of Nisombalia.
This activity is part of a community service program carried out by a team from the Indonesian Muslim University in collaboration with the Nisombalia Village Government. In this case, Mr. Syafri is the secretary of Nisombalia Village. This program aims to empower communities with new skills in managing waste into products of economic value. Apart from that, it is hoped that this organic fertilizer product can reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers which have been widely used by farmers in the village.
According to Mr. Syafri, Nisombalia village secretary, this program really helps the community make more optimal use of local resources. "We really support this initiative, because apart from being able to reduce the accumulation of crab shell waste, this organic fertilizer product can also be used by farmers in our village to increase agricultural yields," said Syafri as a partner in this service.
Meanwhile, Rosmawati, SE., M.AK as the main driver of this program explained that the process of making organic fertilizer from crab shells involves several stages, starting from drying, crushing, to mixing with other organic materials. "This process is not only simple, but can also be done by people independently in their homes. Thus, apart from being a useful product, it can also increase their income," he added.
For the people of Nisombalia, this initiative is a new hope for increasing family income. Apart from improving the quality of soil and agricultural products, this organic fertilizer product can be marketed to surrounding areas, and even has the potential to be exported to wider markets.
This program is also a real example of how utilizing local natural resources with innovation can boost the village economy and strengthen food security. With the growing development of the business of processing crab shells into organic fertilizer, it is hoped that Nisombalia Village can become a model for other villages in utilizing waste into profitable business opportunities.
In the future, program organizers hope to involve more parties, both from the private and government sectors, to expand the reach of this organic fertilizer product and provide further training for the community so that they can manage this business more professionally and sustainably.
Thus, the innovation of processing crab shells into organic fertilizer not only supports environmentally friendly agriculture, but also has a positive impact on the economy of the Nisombalia Village community.
