
TURNING CAMPAGAYA VILLAGE TOWARDS ECO GREEN, UMI LECTURER HOLDS TRAINING ON THE UTILIZATION OF ORGANIC WASTE INTO SOLID ORGANIC FERTILIZER
Takalar, 23 June 2026 — The Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) Community Service Team carried out a Community Service Program in Campagaya Village, Bantimurung District, Maros Regency, Thursday (23/6). Activities funded by the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DPPM) of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek)
This 2026 Fiscal Year aims to increase the production of glutinous corn commodities through the use of organic waste into solid organic fertilizer in making Campagaya Village an Eco Green Village.
The program was attended by 45 participants from Farmer Groups in Campagaya Village, Extension Coordinators, Babinsa, and the local community. The activity was opened by the Head of Campagaya Village, Amri, who expressed his appreciation for the presence of the UMI service team in supporting the increase in corn production through the use of solid organic fertilizer from organic waste sourced from Campagaya Village.
Head of the Community Service Team, Prof. Dr. Ir. Edy, M.P., M.Pd. explained that the production increase program does not only depend on the use of inorganic fertilizer but must be accompanied by the use of organic fertilizer derived from organic waste from Campagaya Village. It is further explained that the use of organic waste can be used as fertilizer and can also reduce waste so that the environment can be clean and beautiful. Agricultural land remains healthy and productive. "This is one thing that can make Campagaya Village go eco green," he said.
The making of solid organic fertilizer was attended by participants from the Campagaya Village Farmers Group and were directly involved in the making process. Apart from training, the service team also handed over production equipment assistance from the DPPM Kemdiktisaintek to the Farmer Group and TP PKK Campagaya Village as a form of support for the sustainability of the community empowerment program.
The service team consists of Prof. Dr. Ir. Edy, M.P., M.Pd., Dr. Ir. Nurmiati Muchlis, S.K.M., M.Kes., Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Farid Badaruddin., and Prof. Dr. Imaduddin, S.E., M.M. who also provided assistance during the activity. Through this program, it is hoped that the community will be able to utilize organic waste independently so that it can increase crop production, the environment will be clean, agricultural land will be healthy and sustainably productive.
Apart from the contribution from the service team, this activity was also supported by LPkM UMI, and the Campagaya Village government so that the service program ran according to mutual expectations.
