
Preventing Worms and Stunting, UMI FKM Lecturer Educates Students Using the Role Play Method
Stunting is a national health problem that is of concern to the Indonesian government and society. Stunting is a condition where a child's growth and development is shorter than that of children his age. The causes of stunting are multi-complex, including diet, parenting patterns, family socio-economic status, community cultural factors, handling of pregnancy and childbirth, exclusive breastfeeding, inappropriate provision of complementary foods, including infectious diseases suffered by children. Several infectious diseases can interfere with a child's growth and development, such as diarrhea, pneumonia, ARI, including worms. Understanding stunting and its various risk factors is important for every child (elementary school student) so that they can take preventive measures as future leaders.
For this purpose, UMI FKM lecturers (Arman and Halida Thamrin) on Wednesday, September 11 2024 carried out service activities in the form of education for class IV students at SD 13 Padanglampe Kab. Pangkep. Arman, as the person responsible for the activity, explained that "before giving the material, it is donepretesteach student to assess the extent of his or her level of understanding about behaviorpersonal hygienein preventing worms and stunting." Apart from presenting this educational activity in front of the class with interactive dialogue, this educational activity also takes the form ofrole playby using learning media through the snake and ladder game. Halida added that "when providing education through the snakes and ladders game, every student was seen to be very enthusiastic and happy because all students were involved in the learning process which was carried out while playing."
In the snakes and ladders game, students are divided into several groups. Every round, there are two groups of students who play in turns. Each member of the group will have the opportunity to play. Education through a game of snakes and ladders using dice and 3 x 4 meter cloth containing health messages that have been prepared in advance. This educational activity through role play was closed with a posttest to assess the increase in students' knowledge and understanding.
Head of UPTD SD 13 Padanglampe, Jaenuddin, SPd., MPd, welcomed the service activities carried out by UMI FKM lecturers. "The children are very happy and enthusiastic about taking part in this activity because they learn while playing. Usually, the learning process in class is carried out more conventionally through the lecture method. We hope that in the future, if there are activities like this again, hopefully our school will still be the choice."
