Digital Training on Writing Islamic Stories for the Youth Literacy Movement at Nurul Ma'arif Mosque, Paropo, Makassar City
Paropo, 17 October 2025 – The Lecturer Team at the Faculty of Letters, Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) held a Community Service activity with the theme "Digital Training in Writing Islamic Stories for the Youth Literacy Movement at the Nurul Ma'arif Paropo Mosque". This service is funded by the UMI Research and Community Service Institute (LPkM).
The service activity carried out on Friday is a creative literary writing training activity that takes digital literacy and Islamic stories as the main discussion. The service was carried out at the Nurul Ma'arif Paropo Mosque which is located on Jl. Paropo 3, Paropo Village, Panakkukang District, Makassar City, South Sulawesi.
This service activity was carried out by an implementing team consisting of two lecturers, Dr. Sitti Rahmawati, S.S., M.Pd. as chief executive, and Abd. Majid, S.Sos., M.Sc. as a faculty member. This service also involved two students, Hamsia Harun and Indriani from the UMI Indonesian Literature Study Program.
The implementation of this service in the form of digital training in writing Islamic stories aims to provide a forum for improving literacy and writing skills, providing learning related to writing Islamic stories, as well as providing resources and facilities for teenagers at the Nurul Ma'arif Paropo Mosque. Literacy and writing skills are combined through digital media so that understanding of technology and language can be developed.
Digital training in writing Islamic stories needs to be implemented at the Nurul Ma'arif Mosque because of the lack of literacy awareness, writing skills and use of digital media among mosque youth. However, the main cause is the lack of human resources and facility support so that external support is needed, such as providing training activities.
At the beginning of the training stage, participants will be given material on story concepts, story building elements (intrinsic and extrinsic), story structure, writing techniques (spelling, punctuation, diction, sentence construction, language style), literature and digital literacy, as well as how to implement Islamic understanding in story works. Mosque youth must understand the basics first before carrying out the main task. After the material is given, each student will be directed to write an Islamic story in the form of a pentigraph (three paragraph short story).
This service is not only aimed at mosque teenagers, but also includes mosque congregations, local residents, and even children. The congregation and local residents can play an important role in spreading the teaching of Islamic values taken from the work of Islamic stories by teenagers from the Nurul Ma'arif Propo mosque. Therefore, this training activity is important to develop media for preaching through literary works.
After completing this activity, it is hoped that mosque youth at the Nurul Ma'arif Paropo Mosque will be able to understand Islamic story writing and the value of literacy, as well as form a da'wah movement through literature and digital.
