Application of Culinary Spices as Growth Regulators (ZPT) in the Cultivation of Horticultural Plant Seeds Among the Seruni Farmers Collective in Pucak Village, Tompobulu District, Maros Regency
Implementation of UMI's Internal PKM with the theme of the Use of Kitchen Spices as Growth Regulators (ZPT) in Making Horticultural Plant Seeds in the Seruni Farmer Group in Pucak Village, Tompobulu District, Maros Regency by Ir.Muliaty Galib, MP & Ir. Anwar Robbo, SP, MP.
This PKM activity was inspired by how to use kitchen spices to make ingredients that can help in the propagation of horticultural plants, especially mango plants in Pucak Village, Tompobulu, Maros, South Sulawesi. Many old mango plants require rejuvenation by replacing them with new plants. The process of rejuvenating mango plants in farmers' gardens requires quite a lot of plant seeds and costs a lot of money.
One way to help reduce these costs is by using kitchen spices in the form of garlic, aloe vera and lime as Growth Regulators (ZPT) which can accelerate the growth of roots & shoots in the process of vegetative propagation of mango plant seeds (stem cuttings). This is done to minimize failure in the process of propagating plants using stem cuttings, which usually fail to grow due to non-growth of roots & shoots and pest/disease attacks. Use lime & aloe vera to help accelerate the growth of roots & shoots, while using shallots to prevent H/P attacks which functions as a biofunctional. This will also help ensure that more seeds are produced that are successful in terms of quantity and quality.
This activity really helps the local community, especially the Seruni farmer group, in opening new insights and knowledge that is simple, cheap and easy to implement. There were around 25 members of the Seruni farmer group who attended this activity, consisting of men, women and teenagers.
