APPLICATION OF SWEET POTATO CULTIVATION TECHNOLOGY AND BOOKKEEPING MANAGEMENT IN KARAENG BORONG FARMERS' GROUP
The Tridharma of Higher Education for Lecturers includes Teaching, Research and Community Service, all three of which must be carried out by a lecturer. The third dharma, namely community service, is carried out by lecturers at the Faculty of Agriculture and Mining Land Bioremediation in the community. The community service activity entitled "Application of Sweet Potato Cultivation Technology and Bookkeeping Management in the Karaeng Borong Farmer Group" was successfully carried out by a team of lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture and Mining Land Bioremediation (FP-Biotam) at the Indonesian Muslim University (UMI).
This activity is part of the community service funding grant for the 2025 fiscal year provided by the UMI Waqf Foundation through the UMI Community Service Institute (LPkM). The implementation team consists of Dr. Ir. Saida, SP., M.Sc. as Team Leader and Prof. Dr. Ir. Ida Rosada, MS. as a member of the Team and involving 2 students, namely Multasam (08220230023) and Adelia (08220230041), with the main focus improving the skills and knowledge of members of the Karaeng Borong Farmers Group in sweet potato cultivation technology and management of their farming business bookkeeping.
This program was attended by 25 participants from the Karaeng Borong Farmer group in Temmappaduae Village, Marusu District, Maros Regency. This service activity is divided into three stages. The first stage consisted of socialization and counseling which was carried out on Sunday, September 28 2025. The material provided included sweet potato cultivation technology, making compost from agricultural waste and bookkeeping management of sweet potato test farming. This socialization and counseling activity was held from 09.00 WITA until finished.
The second stage continued with direct training activities with the Karaeng Borong farmer group and the community regarding sweet potato cultivation technology and making compost from agricultural waste delivered by Dr. Ir. Saida, SP., M.Sc. and bookkeeping management of the jalar test farming business by Prof. Dr. Ir. Ida Rosada, MS., on Monday, October 18 2025. Participants get direct practice in sweet potato cultivation technology, compost making and packaging as well as sweet potato product packaging, as well as bookkeeping management for sweet potato farming businesses.
In the third stage, an intensive mentoring program is carried out from September to October 25 2025. This mentoring aims to ensure that the application of the technology that has been taught can run optimally and sustainably.
According to Dr. Ir. Saida, SP., MSi., this activity was welcomed enthusiastically by the participants. "Participant"I am very enthusiastic about taking part in this activity and hope that activities like this will be sustainable," he said.
Apart from that, on this occasion, equipment assistance was also handed over to the GroupTani Karaeng Borong to support increased production and sales of sweet potato products andthe resulting compost. Chairman of the Karaeng Borong Farmers Group, expressed his appreciationtowards this activity. “We really appreciate this program and hope that similar activities can be carried outimplemented again in the future to support the development of sweet potato farmingwe do," he said.
This activity is a concrete manifestation of UMI's commitment to supporting economic developmentcommunity through technology and innovation-based service programs, which are expected to be able toimprove the welfare of the people in the region.
