FPIK UMI PKM Team Provides Education to Karang Taruna Youth Group on Bontosua Island, Pangkep about Methods for Preserving Coral Reef Ecosystems
The Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) Community Service Team (PKM), consisting of lecturers, alumni and students, provides education for the Karang Taruna Group and fishing communities.
This educational activity was realized through training involving young men and women from Karang Taruna on Bontosua Island, Mattiro Bone Village, Liukang Tupabbiring District, Pangkep Regency, on 28-29 November.
PKM Team Leader, Dr. Ir. Abdul Rauf, M.Sc., stated that preserving coral reef ecosystems is a shared responsibility that requires contributions from various parties (stakeholders). "This contribution includes parties directly or indirectly involved in activities in coastal and marine areas," he said.
Coral reef ecosystems play a crucial role in maintaining ecological, economic and social balance, so that their sustainability is a shared responsibility.
This training has the theme "Education to Increase Knowledge of Karang Taruna Youth Groups and the Community regarding Conservation and Rehabilitation as an Effort to Preserve the Coral Reef Ecosystem on Bontosua Island".
This activity involves members of the Bontosua Island Youth and Youth Group with the aim of providing an understanding of how to protect the coral reef ecosystem so that its sustainability is maintained. One of the methods introduced in this training is the coral transplantation technique.
The entire series of activities is designed to encourage the community, especially the young men and women of Karang Taruna on the island, to realize the importance of maintaining the continuity of the coral reef ecosystem.
The Head of Mattiro Bone Village, Rusdi, S.Sos, stated that carrying out this activity was an important step in increasing awareness and knowledge of the local community. "Especially regarding the impact of human activities on coral reefs and steps to preserve them," he said.
It is hoped that the UMI PKM program can be a motivation for the people of Bontosua Island to continue to protect and care for the coral reef ecosystem, so that it can be used sustainably.
