Community Service Activities by Indonesian Muslim University Lecturers with the Theme Optimizing the Role of Cadres in Prenatal Classes at the Rappokalling Community Health Center

Makassar, 25 September 2024 โ€“ Lecturers from the Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) again held community service activities with a focus on improving the quality of health services for pregnant women. Taking place in the working area of โ€‹โ€‹the Rappokalling Community Health Center, this activity is entitled *"Optimizing the Role of Cadres in Prenatal Classes as an Effort for Early Detection of Emergencies in Pregnant Women"*.

This activity, which took place on September 25 2024, involved a number of lecturers from the UMI Faculty of Public Health who collaborated with midwives and local health cadres. The main aim of this activity is to provide education to cadres to be more alert and skilled in early detection of potential emergencies that pregnant women can experience, such as preeclampsia, bleeding and other health problems.

In his speech, Suryanti S., S.Keb., Bd., M.Keb as one of the lecturer representatives from UMI stated that the role of health cadres is very important in accompanying pregnant women, especially at the community level who require special attention in prenatal health. "Cadres are the spearhead of health services in society. Those who interact directly with pregnant women on a daily basis must be equipped with adequate knowledge and skills to detect signs of emergencies early on. That way, we can prevent more serious complications,"

During the activity, health cadres received intensive training through theory and direct practice regarding early treatment of various emergency conditions in pregnant women. Some of the important material presented includes how to identify dangerous symptoms in pregnancy, first aid steps, and when is the right time to refer pregnant women to more complete health facilities.

Not only that, this prenatal class is also designed so that pregnant women in the Rappokalling Community Health Center area are more aware of the importance of monitoring their health regularly. At the end of the activity, an interactive question and answer session was held, where health cadres and pregnant women could consult directly with the lecturer team regarding various pregnancy problems they might face.

It is hoped that this community service activity will have a long-term positive impact on improving the health of mothers and babies in the Rappokalling area. By optimizing the role of cadres in early detection, it is hoped that maternal and infant mortality rates can be reduced, and the quality of local community health can continue to improve.

This service also shows the commitment of the Indonesian Muslim University in supporting government programs to improve the health of pregnant women and children as well as strengthening the role of communities in supporting public health.
