Strengthening Reproductive Health Literacy through Educational Counseling for Primigravida Mothers in Facing First Birth in the Rappokalling Community Health Center Work Area
Makassar, 29 October 2025 โ A team of lecturers and students from the Midwifery Study Program, Faculty of Public Health, Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) carried out Community Service (PkM) activities with a focus on Strengthening Reproductive Health Literacy through Educational Counseling for Primigravida Mothers in the working area of โโthe Rappokalling Community Health Center, Makassar City.
This activity aims to increase primigravida mothers' understanding of reproductive health and prepare them physically and mentally for their first birth. Through counseling and education methods, participants are given an explanation of the Mechanism of Childbirth, the birthing process and Postpartum Physiology.
The chief organizer of the activity, (Nurul Husnah, S.ST., M.Keb), explained that low reproductive health literacy often results in anxiety, unpreparedness, and even the risk of complications during childbirth. Therefore, this activity is part of efforts to empower pregnant women to be able to make the right decisions in maintaining their health.
The activity participants consisted of primigravida mothers who were registered in the Rappokalling Community Health Center working area. They seemed enthusiastic about participating in the discussion and question and answer session guided by the team of lecturers and students. In this activity, educational media was also distributed in the form of leaflets and short videos about reproductive health.
Representatives from the Rappokalling Community Health Center welcomed this activity and hoped that programs like this could be carried out sustainably. According to him, direct education to the public is an effective strategy in increasing pregnant women's knowledge and awareness of the importance of being prepared before giving birth.
Through this service activity, it is hoped that primigravida mothers can better understand the conditions of their pregnancy and childbirth, so that they can reduce anxiety, increase readiness, and create a safe and enjoyable first birth experience.
