UMI Empowers Leang Leang Farmers with Soy Milk Innovation
Maros, 24 October 2024โ Leang Leang Village, known as one of the largest soybean production centers in Maros Regency, is now increasingly successful. This is thanks to an innovative initiative from the Community Service Team (PKM) of the Faculty of Agriculture, Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) Makassar which successfully held training on making soy milk.
Training led by Dr. Ir. St Sabahannur, M.P., together with a team of experts and students from the Faculty of Agriculture, have succeeded in equipping a local group of women farmers with the skills to process soybeans into value-added products, namely high quality soy milk. In this way, the abundant potential of local soybeans can be optimized to improve community welfare.
Transformation of Farmers into Entrepreneurs
โWe want to do more than just provide training,โ said Dr. Ir. St Sabahannur. "We want to foster an entrepreneurial spirit among farmers, especially women. Through this training, they will not only become soy milk producers, but also open up opportunities to develop small and medium enterprises based on agriculture."
The hope is that the soy milk produced by Leang Leang Village will not only meet local needs, but can also be marketed to a wider area. This will certainly have a positive impact on the village economy and improve the community's standard of living.
Sustainable Partnership
The collaboration between academics and the community in this activity is a real example of how science can be applied directly to solve problems in society. The UMI Faculty of Agriculture is committed to continuing to establish partnerships with Leang Leang Village, providing assistance and support so that this soy milk business can develop sustainably.
