UMI Implements International PKM at MINA Nagoya Mosque, Japan, Focuses on Energy Saving Design Education
Nagoya, Japan โ Indonesian Muslim University through the Community Service InstituteThe Community (LPKM) has once again demonstrated its commitment to expanding its contribution toglobal level. This year, the UMI International PKM team carried out a service program atIndonesian Mosque Foundation (MINA) Nagoya, with a focus on design strategy educationenergy saving and efficient use of electricity.
The program led by Ir. Arinda Wahyuni, ST., M.Ars., from the UMI Faculty of Engineeringpresent in response to the high electricity costs borne by the mosque. Japanimplementing a progressive electricity tariff system based on the amount of consumption, thus usageheating and air conditioning in winter and summer causesEnergy expenditure increases significantly. This is what lies behind the need formore efficient and energy saving building design strategies.
During the activity, the UMI team provided direct education to the administratorsand active congregation of the MINA Mosque. Training includes passive design applications such as ventilationlighting, natural lighting, thermal insulation, and choosing more economical electrical equipmentenergy. Apart from face-to-face training, the team also handed over a booklet entitled StrategyEnergy Saving Design for a Four Seasons Climate which is specially prepared based on conditions andmosque needs.
The evaluation showed encouraging results. Based on the pre-test and post-test, this happenedincreased participant knowledge by 32%. The mosque management stated that the materialgiven is very relevant, especially because the mosque is currently undergoing renovationsthird floor, so that energy-saving design recommendations can be directly applied. This activity also supports UMI's achievement of IKU 2 and IKU 5, because it involvesstudents in international activities and produce lecturer work that is utilizeddirectly by the community. This PKM program is implemented through UMI LPKM fundingas part of the Internal Community Service Program (PKM) SchemeInternational.
